MIRI: Non-stop heavy downpour over the past two days has resulted in a primary school in Baram to be flooded forcing it to close today (May 7).

Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Lenai senior assistant (student affairs), Ramble Borhan reported that the heavy downpour started around 1pm on Thursday (May 6) and only stopped around 2am early this morning.

“The flood waters have inundated the teachers’ quarters while the school building, dormitories, hall and kitchen are not flooded.

“The depth of water is about four feet high, thus, resulting in the school’s operation to be affected,” he said.

Due to the incident, parents were asked to bring their children back to their village and the students were picked up by boat as their longhouse area was also flooded.

Before the students were allowed to go back, they were briefed on the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in view of the Covid-19 pandemic and issues related to home-based teaching and learning (PdPR), Hari Raya Aidilfitri and mid-term school holidays.
