MIRI: Floodwaters made its way into Rumah Long Bemang longhouse in upper Baram, affecting some 600 residents, due to continuous rainfall.
According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre (PGO) in a statement on Sunday (Sept 13), the flood showed an increasing trend, following incessant rain.
“The water level started rising since September 9 around 4am,” the statement said.
Four blocks of the longhouse — Heluyah, Hosana, Maranata and Calvary — were inundated with 2.2 feet, 1.9 feet, 1.7 feet and 1.5 feet of water respectively.
The community of the longhouse has been warned to be on alert as the water level continues to rise.
