KUCHING: Part of the Pan Borneo Highway linking Sri Aman to Kuching at Sg Tenggang, was inundated with floodwaters due to heavy rain yesterday morning.

State Disaster Management Committee secretariat chief Major Ismail Mahedin said the heavy downpour, coupled with clogged drainage (culvert), had caused water to overflow which led to the flooding.

“According to the contractor at the scene, the water started to rise since 6.30am and the flood lasted for approximately 20 minutes and that the route was cut-off for about 10 minutes.

“The cut-off route was about 100m and was three feet deep,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The water started to recede by 8.30am and traffic commuted as usual.
