SIBU: Phase 1 of the flood mitigation project at Taman Rimba Bukit Lima and Kampung Usahajaya Baru, Sentosa, Salim, has reached 26.81 per cent completion, says Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.
He noted that the project progress is currently 7.53 per cent ahead of schedule.
“Based on the project status report as of February this year, the actual construction progress has reached 26.81 per cent completion against the scheduled 19.28 per cent.
“So, the project is 7.53 per cent ahead of schedule, and its progress looks rather healthy to me,” he said when met by the media after distributing a total of 300 containers of bubur lambuk and 300 containers of dates to the residents at Kampung Usahajaya Baru, Sentosa, Salim here on Thursday (March 21).
The programme, held in conjunction with Ramadan, was organised by the Bukit Assek Service Centre and the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Bukit Assek Branch along the roadside near SK Sentosa.
Previously, the state government had allocated RM21.388mil for this first phase of the project, which is expected to be completed by May 2025.
The work includes constructing a 1,630m-long cement ditch plus upgrading and expanding a 5,200m-long earthen ditch and constructing an earthen ditch about 950m long.
The objective of the mitigation project is to enhance the drainage system in the village, with the hope of alleviating the struggles faced by local residents due to stagnant water and flooding after rainfall.
