KUCHING: The RM10 million Sungai Stakan flood mitigation project will begin soon, said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.

He said the project that will be implemented by the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) will alleviate and mitigate flooding including flash floods in the surrounding areas of Mile 7 in the constituency.

“That is first project as Kota Sentosa has not been under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government for many years.

“Now when it is under GPS, it is my commitment, and with the assistance of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), local councils and deputy premier, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, we will be able to settle all these problems one by one,” he said during a press conference after attending the swearing in of councillors of MBKS here, on Saturday.

He hoped the public will understand that all the problems cannot be solve immediately but progressively.

“And as far as funding is concerned, I am sure we will be able to implement more projek rakyat, bear with us, we are not going to run away.

“The promises will be kept progressively, based on the funding we can get and we also need to be fair to other GPS areas as well. We are starting late but we are catching up,” he said.
