KUCHING: Three families are seeking essential supplies after their houses were hit by floods early Sunday (Jan 28).

It was reported that two houses at Jalan Kemuning Matang were inundated by floodwaters up to knee level, and a house at Lorong Petra 2, Sungai Bedil was flooded up to ankle level.

The first house accommodates 12 residents, including a young girl and an elderly woman, the second house houses 16 residents, including five children, and the third house is inhabited by four residents.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from the Petra Jaya station were dispatched to the scenes after receiving distress calls at 9.42am and 11.50am.

The team had advised the families in Matang to evacuate to a temporary relief centre but they opted to stay on the upper floors of their homes.

Meanwhile, the family in Sungai Bedil was also advised to evacuate to a temporary relief centre if needed.
