
MIRI: Many low-lying areas in Ulu Baram were flooded following non-stop rain since Friday.
Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said a landslide also occurred near the Lapok junction.
“The landslide disconnected several villages in Ulu Tinjar, namely Rumah John Long Tuyut, Rumah Joben Long Tabing, Rumah Jarau Long Tabing, Long Teran Kanan, Long Jegan, Long Takung, Long Tisam, Apau Gun and Long Aya,” said Law.

Currently, clearance works are being carried out with the help of a timber company.
Meanwhile, three schools were affected by flood — Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tutoh Apoh, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Lenei and SK Sungai Bong — with water levels as high as 2.5 feet.
However, no evacuations were carried out as there were no school sessions following the year-end break and Covid-19 pandemic.
The Mulu health clinic was also hit by the flood. One of the flooded areas in Mulu.
In SK Sungai Bong, staff members were busy moving the school’s properties to a higher place.
Meanwhile, in Mulu, the water level at Sungai Melinau has increased since Friday, following incessant rainfall.
Five areas, including a primary school, were flooded — Kampung Melinau, Kampung Batu Bungan, SK Batu Bungan, Mulu Health Clinic and Mulu District Office.
