SIBU: A continuous downpour since Tuesday (Jan 11) has resulted in three houses at Kampung Seduan here inundated with water the next afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said a distress call on the incident was received around 11.44am and firefighters from the Sungai Merah station were immediately sent to the location.

“The water level had risen without warning, according to residents of the affected houses.

“Upon arrival at the location, part of the area had been flooded, with the water level an estimated two-and-a-half feet,” Bomba said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 12).

However, Bomba noted that two of the three households had refused to evacuate despite the rising water level.

“The occupants of another residence, comprising seven adults, two senior citizens and a baby girl, were evacuated.”

Bomba added that the rescue team proceeded to get in touch with the Resident’s Office for the opening of a temporary evacuation centre at Dewan Kampung Jeriah here.
