KUCHING: Twenty five students of St Peter’s pre-school, Kampung Simpok had a pleasant surprise yesterday when they reported for school.

Their classroom floor had been severely cracked since 2016, with broken bits of concrete exposed and the school authority had to cover it with just a plastic mat.

HIDUP (Pertubuhan Habitat Indigenous Daerah Untuk Pemulihan), a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) was alerted of the school condition by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

HIDUP president George Young Si Record Junior immediately contacted Kimgres and CMS Cement for materials to repair the classroom floor.

George said both of these corporate giants responded positively to HIDUP’s request, thus, tiles and cement bags were sent to the school immediately.

He also stated that the laying of tiles on the floor was carried out by the PTA and villagers of Kampung Simpok during ‘gotong-royong’.

“With the completion of this restoration, students and teachers will have a safe and nice classroom.

“HIDUP will continue to provide assistance and positive changes to the local communities needs,” added George.
