KOTA SAMARAHAN: Hasanah Jash, 62, who is a mother of ten children does not pay any heed to the elements when she accompanies her son, Azizul Hakim Abdul Latiff, 26, to do business by the roadside.

Azizul says he has little choice because he is not willing to leave her at home alone.

“We did tell her to sit and rest at home but she accompanied us because she was not willing to be alone at home.”

“But look, this way she does not get bored,” he told Suara Sarawak at his chocolate and flower stall put up in conjunction with the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Sarawak (UiTM) Convocation here, today.

Azizul said the flower, chocolate and gift delivery business has been a family undertaking starting earlier this year.

“We provide flowers today for between RM25 and RM75 per bouquet and the estimated total capital per day is more than RM1,000.
“But we do not get much profit, especially since the price of goods are increasing.”

Another florist, Zunaina Zen, 50, who has been selling flowers the past two years, said she and her friend were doing so to earn side income.

He said the bouquets were sold at prices ranging from RM30 to RM70 which he arranges himself with his friend, Dewi Christi Kading, 34, who is from Lawas.

“We take six hours a day to prepare all the bouquets in conjunction with this convocation.”

Meanwhile, for Arfan Abdullah Abdul Ghani, 33, the convocation ceremony was the first opportunity for him to sell flowers.

“We also provide chocolate flower arrangements, fresh flowers besides offering flower arrangements starting from RM30 to RM90.”

Arfan said he and his sister, Nur Aina Karnina Abdullah Abdul Ghani, 16, left for Samarahan at 5.30am and arrived an hour later to avoid heavy traffic.
