KUCHING: All parties are urged to focus on the bigger agenda — to recover the nation from the Covid-19 crisis and economic slump — with the new federal government.
In stressing this, Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the appointment of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has to be accepted with an open heart.
“My hope is that all parties accept the appointment of the new prime minister and not turn to politicking any longer.
“This is because we have a bigger agenda which is to fight Covid-19 and focus on economic recovery so that the people’s lives are prosperous again.
“This is very important to ensure that the new government remains stable and continue to focus on restoring the country in all aspects,” he said in a Facebook post last Saturday (Aug 21).
Julaihi was also grateful that the process of transition of power from the previous federal government was conducted smoothly and in accordance with the Federal Constitution.
At the same time, he also hoped that the new federal government will continue to protect Sarawak’s interests and its special rights.
“It is the wish of all Sarawakians that the interests of their state be protected and guaranteed at all times as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 under the leadership of the new prime minister.
“Therefore, our (Sarawak) status as an equal territory with Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah can officially be restored,” he added.
