KUCHING: The decision by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to resign as prime minister is an effort to ease the political crisis in the country, says Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

He pointed out that the move however would hamper the country’s recovery plan and the mission to achieve herd immunity by October.

“It is hoped that the new government will be able to continue the focus on fighting Covid-19 instead of continuing to play politics. The efforts to fight the pandemic must be prioritised.

“At the moment, almost every segment of society is distressed by the pandemic, therefore the new government must devise a way of dealing with this,” said the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs & DBKU).

At the same time, he also commended Muhyiddin for doing his best in ensuring that the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme was a success.

“We can see through this programme that many eligible people have completed their two doses of vaccine while others have already received their first dose.

“Muhyiddin was also very concerned about providing various assistance to the people, especially those badly affected by the pandemic.”

The Pantai Damai assemblyman also reiterated that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak must remain united and focused in maintaining the state’s political stability.
