SERIAN: Police here thwarted attempts by two tekongs (trafficking agents) to smuggle foreigners illegally into the state.

“The arrests were made by the Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 11 in Sungai Paoh on Thursday (Feb 9).

“The incident happened at around 11.15 pm after the operation teams were on their Ops Batas patrol,” he said in a statement issued yesterday.

He added that the two tekongs who smuggled the foreigners were not carrying any legal documents.

Both cases were being investigated under Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007 and the Immigration Act 1959/63, he pointed out.

Aswandy said that all suspects were brought to the IPD Serian for further investigations and questioning.
