KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) has urged all the longhouse folk to strictly follow the Gawai Dayak celebration standard operating procedures (SOPs) as laid by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Its permanent secretary Munan Laja said the Gawai SOPs set for areas in the conditional movement control order (CMCO) and enhanced movement control order (Emco) in Sarawak are for the good of all.

“I look at the SOPs. They are very strict, I hope the longhouse folk will strictly comply with them.

“As we all know, many longhouses in the state are now under lockdown due to the spread of the virus,” he said today (May 22).

Munan hoped no more longhouses would be put under lockdown after the Gawai celebration.

“In Sarawak, the Hari Raya SOPs were well followed by those who celebrated the occasion. I hope it will be the same for this coming Gawai,” he said.

He said the people must remember to look after their health by following the SOPs.

“Life is of utmost importance. Thereby, I support the Gawai SOPs and hope all will comply,” said Munan.
