SIBU: People are urged to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) while visiting the Ramadan Bazaars here to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The call was made by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Councillor Clarence Ting Ing Horh after the launch of the Electronic and Electrical Waste Collection Centre at Taman Grand Height, Jalan Mantis today.

According to him, the SOPs include always using face masks.

He also advised stall operators to maintain cleanliness at all times.

“We need to protect ourselves. Make sure you wash your hands often,” he said.

Ting said the council had approved three sites for the Ramadan Bazaars, namely, at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase II, Taman Tasik Permai and Pasaraya Farley, Jalan Salim.

He further explained that the Ramadan Bazaar in Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase II would house 65 stalls while Taman Permai Bazaar would have 20 stalls and Farley Ramadan Bazaar 12 stalls.

“We hope that during this Ramadan, visitors will be able to cooperate and adhere to the SOPs strictly.

“Even though we have entered the endemic phase, it does not mean that all previous SOPs should be ignored,” he said.

Also present were deputy chairman of the council, Councillor Bujang Abdul Majid, Acting Secretary Yong Ing Chu and Sarawak Information Technology Association (SICTA) chairman Sibu Wong See Teck.
