KUCHING: Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee estimates that the distribution of food aid in the Nangka constituency under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 package will be completed by tomorrow or Friday.

He said Monday was the first day of the distribution of food aid to those in need whose income had been affected by the movement control order (MCO).

“Today (Monday), we will distribute the food aid to over 3,000 household heads in the Nangka constituency,” he said during the distribution effort, which was shared in a video posted on his Facebook page, today.

He said the food aid was distributed through the assigned Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) branches, explaining that these branches only distribute and not identify the recipients.

“It is the Resident’s Office that identifies and verifies the aid recipients,” he said.

Nevertheless, the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee coordinator said those who needed assistance but had been inadvertently left out should inform the relevant PBB branches so that food assistance can be rendered to them.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, said that this time around, the mode of food aid distribution is more towards home deliveries in order to avoid crowds at the distribution centre.

However, he said that if the recipient is not home during the time of delivery, they may have to come forward to the distribution centre to collect their aid.

He explained that there are two delivery groups — the first involving the distribution of food aid to each house through the PBB branches while the other involved riders.

“The riders will send the food to recipients who are on the list of those who had previously made requests during the earlier MCO periods,” he said.

He said 90 vehicles were involved in the BKSS 6.0 food aid distribution in his constituency.

“To some extent, this is also a small source of income for the senders of the food baskets,” added Dr Annuar.
