KUCHING: Residents in the Demak Laut constituency have started receiving food aid under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 package beginning Tuesday (June 8).

Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said a total of 6,020 households (KIR) in the constituency will be receiving food assistance, which will be distributed in stages.

“The first distribution involved a total of 456 KIR from Kampung Tabuan Lot, Kampung Tabuan Hilir (222) and Tabuan Lama (290).

“The next distribution will be implemented on Wednesday (today) and the days after,” he said when met at Kampung Tabuan Community Hall on Tuesday (June 8).

Dr Hazland said the distribution of the aid was managed by the Demak Laut constituency service centre and assisted by community leaders, village safety and development committee, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu branch and sub-branch and Sarawak National Youth Organisation.

He also hoped that the food aid can ease the burden of those affected by the movement control order (MCO).

“Residents are advised to stay at home to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“However, movement restrictions have made it difficult for them to get food supplies.

“Therefore, the aid has to some extent reduced the burden of the population, especially in obtaining food items,” he said.
