KUCHING: Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang said 7,050 households in the constituency would be receiving food aid under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS).

He said in a Facebook post today that the food aid was distributed to village representatives at the Selangau district office today (June 5).

“Today, we have begun distributing the food aid for the movement control order (MCO). The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government has approved this assistance to alleviate the burden of the people during the MCO.

For Tamin, the distribution of the food aid was coordinated by the district office along with the Tamin constituency service centre.

“We ask that the longhouse head and households submit their lists to their local community leaders as soon as possible.

“The distribution of the aid will be from June 6 to June 14,” said Gira.

Also present during the distribution of the food aid were representative of the Selangau district office, community leaders, councillors and representatives of the Tamin constituency service centre.

In the recent BKSS 6.0 package announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, a total of RM20.5 million were allocated for the food aid supply while another RM5 million for transportation costs.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said on Friday (June 4) that an additional RM15 million fund was approved by Abang Johari, taking the total allocation to RM35.5 million to cater for an increase in recipients.
