KUCHING: A total of 300 food packs were handed out to needy families at the Hui Sing Hawkers Centre, yesterday (Oct 24).

The Caring Food Aid 2.0 programme, organised by the Persatuan Penjaja dan Peniaga Bahagian Samarahan Kuching, was to assist needy families affected by the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.

The association said that the programme has been on-going since early October.

“We have distributed about 2,970 food packs over the four weekends which ended on Oct 10 under our Caring Food Aid programme.

“During the second series of our programme, we will distribute a total of 3,000 food packs over three weekends from Oct 16 until Oct 31,” said the association spokesperson.

The association expressed its gratitude to 38 Food Street Café which sponsored the food packs.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah was invited to the event and assisted in handing out the food packs to the recipients.

“The charity event held today is a very good example which manifested the concept of the Malaysian Family, where they take care of those who are in hardship.

“I am happy that the association’s efforts to find sponsors for the food aid programme has paid off and they have done it very well,” said Fatimah.

She added that such act of kindness also helped the government to look out for the people as well as to help ease the burden of families who faced hardship during this trying time.

“I can see that this charity event is very efficiently implemented. If we wait for government assistance, it will slow down the process as we have to go through a lot of bureaucracy.

“Therefore, I would like to urge those capable of helping the needy people, please help them in any way so that some weight on their shoulder can be lifted,” she said.

Fatimah added that such charity events should be appreciated by the public as it was one of the values practiced by the people of Sarawak who truly appreciate and already practises the Malaysian Family concept.

“I want our people to be united and always help each other regardless of our race, religion or status.

“We may not gain title or monetary prizes, but what is important is that you will feel pleasure and experience real happiness by helping each other and those really in needof our help,” she said.
