KUCHING: The residents of Kampung Bintawa Ulu and Bintawa Tengah, which are under the imposition of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), have received food aid from various concerned parties.
Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the food items to a total of 4,064 residents of the villages were donated by several agencies, namely the Pantai Damai Service Centre, Santubong Parliament Service Centre and Social Welfare Department. Several non-governmental organisations as well as concerned individuals also took part in the contribution.
“In representing the Pantai Damai constituents, especially the residents of Kampung Bintawa Ulu and Bintawa Tengah, I thank all the agencies, including SDMC (State Disaster Management Committee), involved in enforcing the EMCO, which has entered its sixth day today (Mar 21).
“We appeal to all parties to cooperate in our efforts to break the Covid-19 chain,” he said at a press conference after visiting the EMCO Operations Centre and handing over the contribution to the village chiefs of Kampung Bintawa Ulu and Kampung Bintawa Tengah here on Sunday (Mar 21).
The Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs & DBKU) added that a total 3,759 people from the two villages have undergone their first Covid-19 swab test during an active case detection (ACD) activity.
“This means that almost 80 percent of the villagers had undergone ACD.
“So far, a total of 50 positive cases have been detected in these two villages and all of them are now placed in quarantine centres,” he said, adding that the second screening is scheduled for March 25 and onwards.
Previously, SDMC, in a statement on March 15, said the EMCO is enforced in Kampung Bintawa Ulu and Bintawa Tengah from March 16 at 12.01am to March 29 at 11.59pm.
