Food aid timely, says community leaders

KUCHING: Community leaders in the Pantai Damai constituency heaped praise on the move by the state government to provide food aid to affected villagers.

They said the initiative under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) will be able to ease the burden B40 families especially those whose income was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

For Kampung Salak village headman Abdul Wahid Mat, most of the residents in the village are fishermen.

“This is a noble effort by the Sarawak government in helping the community, especially the B40 group whose income are affected.

“Assistance like this can to some extent help the community to have food on the table during the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO) period,” he said.

He said there are a total of 59 households in Kampung Salak whose income was affected received the assistance.

Meanwhile, Kampung Sungai Agas Baru village head Henry Akong said the assistance was introduced in a timely manner to help the affected communities.

“We support this noble effort in helping to ease the people’s burden.

“It is an effort by the Sarawak government to provide direct assistance to the affected communities,” he said.

He said a total of 39 B40 households in Kampung Sungai Agas Baru received the aid.
