KUCHING: Over 4,500 food packs have been distributed to the needy in the Pantai Damai constituency thus far.

Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said that the aid had started being distributed during the first phase of the movement control order (MCO), which started on March 18.

He said that if the MCO was extended again after Aidilfitri, similar aid will continue to be distributed to those in critical circumstances and had their food supply cut off.

“We also distribute aid to recipients outside our area such as at construction sites and the frontlines, besides individuals who come to our service centre.

“We provide such assistance from time to time. If there are any groups which require assistance, they can inform the ketua kampung (village head) immediately so that assistance can be channelled,” he said.

He said this during a ceremony to hand over the food aid to recipients in Pantai Damai yesterday.

Abdul Rahman, who is also Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) and Pantai Damai assemblyman, said that the contribution distribution system used by them was very efficient despite the implementation of the MCO.

“We use the services of ketua kaum and Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), also assisted by organisations at the villages, to distribute the food aid to recipients without violating the rules of the MCO,” he said.
