MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) held a programme on food safety and hygiene on Wednesday in conjunction with World Food Safety Day 2022.

The programme was declared open by Mayor Adam Yii at the City Hall building in Marina park city.

This event initiated by the council’s Public Health Section was held with the cooperation of the Miri Health Office to spread awareness on food safety and hygiene among stall operators and food handlers here.

World Food Safety Day 2022 is celebrated around the world on June 7 every year.

Yii said the programme’s objective was to ensure all participants comprising stall operators, food riders, hawkers and eatery owners understand the importance of personal hygiene in food preparation and to practice safe food handling at home as well.

“We hope that through this programme, all participants comply with local authority licensing conditions and requirements,” he added.

“In the future, I’m hoping that there are more joint efforts between Miri City Council and other agencies and sectors,” Yii said.
Also present was deputy Mayor Julaihi Mohamad.
