The flood relief operation team is ready to embark on its journey from the Marudi express boat wharf.

MARUDI: A flood relief operation kicked off on Saturday (Jan 29) with the distribution of 931 food packs to flood affected areas in the Marudi district.

The operation involved various government agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, the police, Civil Defence Force, RELA and the Welfare Department.

About  21 longhouses and schools received the aid; they included Lubok Tumau (30 packs); Rumah Jipun, Sungai Gaong (32 packs);  Rumah Gerinang, Logan Tasong (22 packs); Rumah Philip Bayu, Tanjon Upar (34 packs); Rumah Mugang, Tanjong Upar (12 packs); Rumah Vincent, Tanjong Upar (66 packs); Long Maro (126 packs); Lubok Kulat (eight packs); Benawa (108 packs); Sekolah Kebangsaan Benawa (18 packs); Kuala Tutoh  (146 packs);  SK Kuala Tutoh (seven packs); Rumah Asong, Linei Bukit (84 packs);  Long Patan ( 26 packs) ;Long Pahlo (10 packs); Long Ukok (14 packs); SK Long Panai (nine packs) ; Long Panai (140 packs); SMK Tutoh Apoh (29 packs);

Meanwhile, Klinik Kesihatan Long Panai received six packs and SK Penghulu Baya Mallang four packs.

Heavy rains for the few days in the district have raised concern among the residents of the possibility of flooding. In several areas, the floodwater levels were reported to be a foot high.
