KUCHING: Authorities are investigating possible food poisoning as the cause of death for pigeons at Kuching Waterfront.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said that samples from the dead pigeons have been sent to the Sarawak Department of Veterinary and the Department of Chemistry for analysis.

“Both departments have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, but discussions have taken place with those involved in the investigation,” said Dr Abdul Rahman.

Some people have speculated that the pigeons might have been intentionally given poisonous food, he added.

Dr Abdul Rahman said this after officiating at the closing ceremony of the Pantai Damai Tribal Chief and Community Chief Leadership Seminar at the Waterfront Hotel yesterday (Aug 22).

He also advised the public not to casually feed pigeons, as the food provided might contain harmful ingredients.

Previously, the North Kuching City Hall (DBKU) said that the investigation into the recent dead pigeon incident is still ongoing.
