BINTULU: Football games are still not allowed during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) period from June 10 until August 31.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, when announcing the RMCO on Sunday, said this was because sports such as football, rugby, soccer, wrestling, boxing, basketball, and hockey were classified as contact sports which also involved a large number of crowds and spectators.

The prime minister’s announcement, however, was received with disappointment by Bintulu Football Association (Bifa) president Mohd Zaifulfadillah Junaidi.

Zaifulfadillah, however, said he accepted the government’s decision that football involved physical contact between perspiring players.

“We accept this decision for the safety and health of football players and all citizens,” he said.

Meanwhile, he expressed his gratitude towards the prime minister’s announcement in allowing the operation of markets, bazaars, food courts, hawker centres, food trucks and food stalls.

This would give some relief to traders and hawkers especially those who sell along the roads whose income had been affected throughout the MCO, he said.
