KUCHING: The completed upgrading works to the drainage system in Kampung Jaya Bakti has helped to overcome erosion and stagnant water issues in the area, said Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

Dr Abdul Rahman who is also the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs & DBKU) said the project, funded under the People’s Project, was completed in May this year.

He said that the project was conducted in three phases and cost RM190,000.

“This will take care of stagnant water in the Masjid Darul Falah area and erosion of the Rayu River,” he said after visiting the drainage project in Kampung Jaya Bakti yesterday (July 6).

Meanwhile Kampung Jaya Bakti village head Deris Bohari thanked the Sarawak government for authorising and approving the project.

“The project was for the convenience of the villagers. I believe that the problem could have gotten worst if it was not addressed immediately.”
