Foreign man nabbed for drug activities

BINTULU: Police apprehended a foreign man for allegedly involving in drug abuse activity and distributing drugs in Kidurong area.

The 37-year-old suspect was detained by police on May 18 when he was being suspected to be distributing drugs at an industrial area here.

According to Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomwe Umpit, the suspect is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 in possession of 11 grammes of methamphetamine.

“The suspect’s urine test also came up positive for methamphetamine, thus he is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same act,” he said.

As he is a foreign national, the suspect did not have any valid travel documents on him, thus he is also being investigated Under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“This arrest is one of police’s efforts in overcoming the problem of drug abuse, in addition to preventing criminal activities in the Bintulu district.
