MUKAH: Major businesses here have been making good sales in the last few years, and foreign workers contributed a certain percentage to the total spending.

There are four major business outlets here patronised frequently by foreign workers.

The foreign workers, mostly from Indonesia, would go shopping at regular intervals during weekends or certain weekdays, in groups or with families.

Their presence has been a boon to the business outlets as they would usually buy not one trolley-full of goods but two or three trolley-full worth of goods for several hundred ringgit.

When this happens, customers buying a few items standing in the queue would have to bear with the jam at the counters.

To locals, it is an inconvenience of sorts but to the outlet owners, it is good business.

It is also good business for owners of four-wheel drive vehicles as they are often used to send the foreign workers back to their quarters at the oil palm plantations in the area after they are done with their shopping.
