Foreign young drug dealer held

Twelve straw tubes and four plastic packets containing drugs believed to be syabu, were seized from a suspected foreign drug dealer yesterday.

BINTULU: Narcotic police here arrested a foreign young lad suspected to be a drug dealer (tokan) for possessing 60g of drugs believed to be syabu yesterday.

Bintulu district police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit said the 19-year-old suspect was arrested for allegedly distributing and abusing drugs in a building at Pasar Lama Bintulu.

“The suspect will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after 12 straw tubes and four plastic packets containing drugs believed to be syabu, were seized from him.

“If convicted for drug possession, the suspect can face the death penalty or if not sentenced to death, can be imprisoned for life and can be whipped up to 15 times with the rotan,” he said.

Preliminary investigations found that the drugs to be distributed to plantation areas, can cater to about 150 users.

Other than that, the suspect who is tested positive for drugs, will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 as well as Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing any valid travel document.
