Foreigner and local arrested for drug abuse

The two suspects were arrested over the weekend for alleged involvement in substance abuse.

BINTULU: Narcotics police arrested two men, including a foreigner, on suspicion of engaging in substance abuse over the weekend.

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit said the first arrest involved a 33-year-old local in Jalan Abang Galau here last Saturday (July 23).

The second person to be arrested was a 35-year-old foreigner in Jalan Sommerville last Sunday (July 24).

Both suspects will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952. Police seized two packets containing syabu, weighing 0.4g each, from the suspects.

If convicted, the Section provides for a jail term of up to five years and a fine of up to RM100,000.

One of the suspects will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act after he tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

The Section carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years and two years of supervision, if convicted.
