Foreigner arrested for alleged housebreaking

MIRI: Police have arrested a foreign man for allegedly breaking into a house at Lorong Friendship 5, Jalan Bintulu-Miri and stealing RM30,000 worth of items on Mar 15.

Miri OCPD ACP Hakemal Hawari, who confirmed the case, said the incident happened around 11.15am when the complainant, a technician for a company, went to the house provided by the company to stay.

The complainant found that the padlocks for the gate and the kitchen door were missing and suspected that his employer’s rented house had been broken into by burglars.

“Upon inspections, the complainant found several items such as 14 laptops, an air cooler, a 40-inch television and a projector, all valued around RM30,000, were also missing,” said Hakemal.

Following the incident, the complainant’s employer was informed of the incident and a police report was lodged.

Investigations found  no closed circuit television (CCTV) and security alarm system had been installed at  the rented house.

There were no witnesses and fingerprints could not be made.

Hakemal said a CID team managed to arrest an Indonesian man believed to be involved in the burglary case, around 1.20pm in a house at Taman Desa Seri today (Mar 23).

“The suspect, 40, from Indonesia, was inspected and the team found a backpack, two laptops, two adapters and two mice.

“The arrest and seizures were taken to the police station for further actions,” he said..

The suspect has been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for having no valid travel documents.
