DARO: A foreign woman has reportedly passed away while being transported to Sibu Hospital for treatment on Thursday (Feb 22).

Matu Daro police chief DSP Neil Baginda in a statement said they received a report from the deceased’s mother on Friday (Feb 23) regarding the 29-year-old Indonesian’s untimely demise.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that around 6pm on Thursday (Feb 22), the parents came across their daughter lifeless in a pick-up truck near the Muara Lasaa ferry pier.

“The discovery was made when the parents and an Indonesian driver were heading to Sibu Hospital from an oil palm plantation in Matu.

“The deceased was then taken to the plantation and after discussions with the plantation management, they took her body to Kuching without notifying the police.

“An ambulance from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) confirmed the woman’s death at 11.15am on Friday (Feb 23) at Padungan police station,” he said.

Neil stated that the deceased was handed over to the SGH mortuary for further actions.

Autopsy results confirmed that the cause of death was postpartum haemorrhage due to retained placenta.

“The deceased had given birth to a baby boy around 10.30pm on Wednesday (Feb 21) in the worker’s quarters at the oil palm plantation in Matu.

“No foul play was suspected and the healthy baby boy is still receiving treatment at SGH.

“The deceased’s body will be claimed by the next of kin,” he said.

The case has been classified as sudden death and it is still under investigation.
