KUCHING: A male Indonesian national who entered Sarawak illegally, was sentenced to five months in prison and two lashes of the cane today.
Sessions Court judge Steve Ritikos ordered the accused, Syafaruddin, 27, to serve his sentence starting today.
The accused from Pontianak, Indonesia pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 at the Kuching Sessions Court, Petra Jaya.
He was arrested at 7.15pm while being at Buntal Cafe near Buntal Square, Jalan Santubong on Feb 26.
