Foreigner jailed one month for trespassing

KUCHING: An Indonesian man was sentenced to one month in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here, for trespassing into a government building on Jan 10.

The accused, Lim Khiong Meu, 49, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 447 of the Penal Code.

According to the charges, the accused deliberately trespassed into the Permata Hydro Ship area of Sarawak Marine Department around 7.15 am.

If convicted, the accused can be sentenced to jail for a term of up to six months or be fined RM3,000 or both.

Syarifah ordered the accused’s sentence to run effective from the date of his arrest on Jan 10, in addition to being referred to the Immigration Department after serving his time.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant, a department officer, caught a man entering the Permata Hydro Ship area located at the Sarawak Marine Department pier.

The complainant then lodged a police report for further action and that led to the arrest of the accused on the same day.
