SIBU: A foreign man could face the death penalty for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking after narcotics police found 50.15g of suspected syabu in his possession yesterday (Apr 30).

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed that the arrest was made around 4.20pm at Jalan Tunku Osman.

“During the raid, the team managed to find 44 plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu in a rental room.

“The seized drugs were valued at RM5,516,” he said in a statement.

Following that, the 49-year-old suspect and the drugs were taken to the police station for further actions.

Zulkipli added that the suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, will be remanded for six days to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
