BINTULU: Narcotics police here arrested two foreign men suspected of being drug dealers after they had in their possession drugs believed to be syabu on Tuesday (Jan 17).

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit said the arrests were part of the operation codenamed ‘Op Tapis’ carried out around the Kidurong Industrial Estate.

The suspects, aged 20 and 23, had a total of 14 straw tubes and two plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing 22.32g – all inside cigarette boxes.

Investigations found that the drugs could feed the addiction of about 300 addicts.

“Both suspects will be investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term of up to five years and up to three strokes of the cane.

“In addition, they will also be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for not having a valid travel document,” he said.

Supt Batholomew advised the public to continue channelling any information related to drug activities to Bintulu police at 086-318304.
