KUCHING: It was a sad day for close friends and family members after receiving news that former five-term assemblyman, Datuk Frederick Bayoi Manggie passed away in his residence on Monday (Sept 21).

According to his wife, Datin Diana Frederick, he passed away around 8am at the age of 77 in his home at No 1, Taman Pasir, Jalan Taman Pasir, Serian.

She said he had been sick for a long time.

Bayoi served five terms as an assemblyman. He was Tarat assemblyman for two terms (1987 to 1996) and Kedup assemblyman for three terms (1996 to 2011).

Bayoi was a member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) for 33 years.

Prior to the last state election, he quit the party to contest as an independent for the Bukit Semuja seat but lost to Barisan Nasional (BN) direct candidate, John Ilus.

Before Bayoi served as an assemblyman, he was in the civil service for 16 years. He served as the third Walikota of Samarahan for 18 years.
