Former MIC vice-president killed with three others in road crash in Kulai

JOHOR BAHRU: Former MIC vice-presidentTan Sri S Balakrishnan, together with three other people, was killed in a road crash at KM 33 North South Expressway near Kulai early today.

Besides Balakrishnan, 65, the others killed in the crash were identified as G Ravi, 55; A Ragu, 47 and K Ramachandran, 51.  All of them were among seven people travelling in a Toyota Vellfire which was heading from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru.

A passenger, V Vishnukumar, 44, was injured, while two other men in the vehicle were reported unhurt.

Kulai district police chief Supt Tok Beng Yeow said the crash occurred at about 12.10 am when a lorry skidded and crashed into a road divider before it veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the Toyota Vellfire.

He said a Proton Wira, which was also heading towards Johor Bahru from Kuala Lumpur, then crashed into the Toyota Vellfire, he said in a statement here today.

The impact caused four people in the Toyota Vellfire, including its driver, to suffer serious head and body injuries and all of them died at the scene, he said in a statement here today.

The lorry driver and the driver of the Proton Wira were reported safe and the injured were sent to Kulai Hospital for treatment. – Bernama
