Former Simpang Renggam detainee arrested for drugs

MUKAH: A former detainee at Pusat Pemulihan Akhlak (PPA) in Simpang Renggam, Johor, was arrested here on Monday (Nov 15) for possessing 0.54g of methamphethamine (syabu) valued at about RM50.

The 29-year-old suspect, who is a labourer, is the fourth person arrested here for drug-related offences in the space of 10 days.

The third suspect was arrested on Nov 11 while the second on Nov 9 and the first, on Nov 5.

Mukah OCPD DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said on Nov 15 at about 10.30am, a police team arrested a man in Jalan Kampung Jebungan here.

He added that while officers were putting on the handcuffs, the suspect threw an object onto the road.

“The object was later found to be a transparent plastic packet containing methamphetamine weighing about 0.54g,” DSP Rizal said.

The suspect was previously detained at Simpang Renggam PPA from 2017 to 2019 for a drug-related offence under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures 1985.

DSP Rizal said initial investigation found that the suspect had been involved in distributing syabu since early 2016 until now, and had obtained the supply from an Indonesian in Bintulu.

He added that the last time the suspect conducted a drug deal in Bintulu was Nov 10 at about noon.

The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
