SIBU: The Sarawak and Sabah Shipowners Association (SSSA) is set to collaborate with the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) to host the Anti-Piracy Forum 2023 this Sept 14.
SSSA Chairman Yong Ing Huong said that the forum will be held at the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) Toh Siong Building (2nd floor) from 9.30 am to 11.30 am.
He said that the forum offers an excellent platform for shipowners, maritime professionals, government agencies, and industry experts to convene and deliberate on strategies, challenges, and solutions aimed at ensuring safer seas in the region.
“The forum’s key highlights include engaging panel discussions with industry leaders and experts, along with insightful presentations addressing the current piracy threat landscape.
“It also serves as a collaborative workshop to explore effective anti-piracy measures and offers networking opportunities with fellow maritime stakeholders,” he said in a statement on yesterday.
Yong encouraged all relevant members and maritime enthusiasts to register for participation in the Forum, emphasising the need for a deeper understanding of piracy and armed robbery challenges in the region.
“I also urge our members to actively collaborate with industry peers and experts in developing effective countermeasures, accessing valuable resources and best practices for enhancing maritime security, and ultimately contributing to a safer and more secure maritime environment,” he added.
