KUALA LUMPUR: Fighting in cyberspace while promoting racial unity.

This was the catchphrase of the first edition of the #SamaSamaMenang, which was the unity-themed electronic sports (e-sports) championship – an initiative by the Ministry of Youth and Sports(KBS) through Esports Integrated (ESI) – held at the ESI Hub in Puchong today.

Contesting just the PlayerUnknown’s Battleground Mobile (PUBGM) video game, the organiser made it more interesting by applying three components in the game format to foster unity and positive communication among participants.

The three components were that the participants had to utilise the individual round-robin format for every level of the game, additional Peace and Development Unity (PADU) reward points and Fireside Chat interactive sessions as a discussion platform on unity and communication.

The competition, which offered a cumulative prize worth RM3,000, was participated by 16 competitors of various races, religions and cultures.

ESI chief executive officer Ahmed Faris Amir said the competition aimed to inculcate elements of inclusivity and communication among the diverse e-sports community in Malaysia.

“To ensure the effectiveness of such advocacy programmes, we took the approach of involving target communities in the discussion slot so that the programme’s objectives can be presented effectively and transparently,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, according to the statement, Taufik, better known as Axis or GxSeeNx, emerged as champion while Mel Gibson (KKxKingsan) finished second and Joel San (Atlas) third.

According to its plan, ESI, in collaboration with state e-sports associations and several strategic partners, aims to hold three editions of the #SamaSamaMenang, with two more locations in the north and east coast zones. – BERNAMA
