KUCHING: Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) commended the Special Council on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) for agreeing to amend Article 1(2) and Article 160(2) of the Federal Constitution that would return Sabah and Sarawak to equal status with Peninsular Malaysia.

Chief executive of YPS Datuk Aloysius J. Dris also congratulated Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Parliament) Datuk Seri Wan Juanaidi Tuanku Jaafar for their efforts in getting the proposal accepted by MKMA63’s Equal Status Working Committee.

“Let us all hope that the proposed amendments to be tabled during the next Parliament sitting will pass through successfully without any hindrance,” Dris said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 20).

He pointed out that the amendments were a big step forward to strengthen the spirit of unity in the Federation.

“This spirit and intention in the formation of Malaysia will come a long way since 1963 to strengthen the spirit of unity in the Federation,” he added.
