MIRI: Four local men were arrested by the police here on Tuesday to help with the investigation into the theft of Telekom Malaysia’s cable in Batu Niah.

On March 30, a 60-meter long cable worth RM10,000 was reported missing from a power station.

According to Miri deputy district police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol, the suspects were found at three different locations in Niah through Ops Lusuh carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department team together with the Patrol and Crime Prevention Unit of the Batu Niah police station.

The first suspect, a 23-year-old man, was apprehended in a longhouse in Niah, while the second and third suspects, ages 39 and 38, were arrested in a five-foot way near a supermarket in Batu Niah.

The fourth, a 49-year-old man, was also arrested in a longhouse.

Several cables were also confiscated by the police during the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of seven years or a fine or both, if convicted.

The four suspects were arrested and sent to the Miri Central Police Station to be interrogated.
