PAKAN : Four centralised schools have been proposed for the Julau parliamentary constituency to deal with the problem of school with very low enrollment. Member of Parliament for Julau Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said that a total of 43 primary schools in the constituency have been identified as facing the problem.

“Although this is only a proposal, parents should prepare them for it which will be sooner or later an eventuality,” he said.

This was said at the annual dinner of the SK Nanga Pakan in Pakan on Saturday evening. According to Salang, the centralised school concept was to provide quality education in the most conducive of environment and where all necessary facilities like Science and ICT laboratories would be available. “We need our rural students to have such opportunities for them to excel in their studies, continue with tertiary education and a better life thereafter,” he said.

Among those schools with low enrolment, he said were the SK Buku, Sk Nanga Pedanum , SK Ulu Pedanum, SK Nanga Ensering, SK Nanga Jambu, SK Dayu, SK Kara, SK Ulu Entaih and SK Kota. Others are the SK Sembawang, SK Kedup and SK Manding.
