Four charred in dawn fire

The aftermath of the fire that claimed the lives of four persons.

BETONG: Four people including two young girls perished in an early morning inferno, when their house in Kampung Melayu Dit, Debak, was razed to the ground on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Sirin Yusuf, 60 and Rosni Sari, 23, while the two girls were identified as Dayang Ina Eset, 10 and Dayang Ina Arrohan, 6 years.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre received a distress call at 2.37am and deployed firefighters from Betong fire station to the scene.

Upon arrival, operations commander PPgB Vincent Baling Yabi informed that the house which was operating as a grocery shop, was already totally burnt.

It was also reported that there were four casualties in the blaze.

Firefighters extinguished the ambers and retrieved the charred remains of the victims.

The bodies were later handed over to the police for further actions.

Investigations are underway to identify the cause of the fire.
