Four-day confab attracts 300 from 13 nations

KUCHING: About 300 participants from 13 countries are gathering for the 1st International Conference on Education in the Digital Ecosystem (ICEdDE 2019) which started yesterday and will end on Aug 22.

The four-day conference held at Riverside Majestic Hotel here, witnessed participation from Malaysia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bhutan, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Indonesia, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka and Switzerland.

State Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong represented Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to officiate at the conference.

The conference aims to address the digital ecosystem transformation process by bringing together leading policy makers, academic scientists, researchers, teacher trainers and teachers in an international setting to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as many of the practical challenges encountered.

The three keynote speakers are Prof Dr Pierre Dillenbourg from EPFL Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland (Classroom Orchestration); Prof Dr Lone Dirckinck-Holmfeld from Aalborg University, Denmark (Blended Learning in Teacher Training – Innovation and Good Practices); and Janne Länsitie from Oulu University of Applied Sciences School of Professional Teacher Education, Finland (Video Pedagogy in Competence-Based Teacher Training and Continuing Professional Development).

Besides, the Blended Learning Workshop is concurrently running in Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak of Samarahan Campus for teachers and educators. The workshop is conducted by Sally Frances Reynolds and Mathieu Vanbuel from Roosbeek Audiovisual Technologies, Informatics and Telecommunication (ATIT), Belgium.

More than 30 teachers and lecturers from rural schools in Kuching, Serian and Kota Samarahan and Teacher Education Institute of Tun Razak Campus participate in the workshop.

Among those  present at the opening ceremony were UiTM Sarawak rector Prof Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali, Teacher Education Institute of Batu Lintang Campus director Jamiran Salam, The ERASMUS Project manager Dr Maria Antonietta Impedovo, and the conference’s organising chairperson Associate Professor Dr Margaret Chan Kit Yok.
