KUCHING: Police here arrested four individuals on suspicion of engaging in online gambling and substance abuse in an integrated crime prevention operation last Thursday (May 26).

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a statement, said the operation in conjunction with Gawai Dayak and the school holiday season, was held from 10am until 2am the next day (May 27) around the district.

“Throughout the operation, the police arrested four individuals, namely one under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953; two under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 while one was nabbed under Section 12(1)(a) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“They also seized two plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing 0.66g.

“All the suspects and seized items were taken to the Kuching police headquarters (IPD) for further action,” he said.

Aside from that, the Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID) also confiscated 12 advertisement banners of unlicensed money lending service.

He added that a total of 32 traffic summonses were issued following inspections on 237 vehicles comprising 106 cars, 97 motorcycles, 34 vans and four 4WD.

Ahsmon stressed that such operation will be carried out continuously on a daily basis to curb the occurrence of criminal activities around Kuching.

It is also to ensure the safety and well-being of the community in conjunction with the celebration of Gawai Dayak and school holiday season.
