Four locals held for drugs

Four local men are currently detained by narcotic police for allegedly engaging in substance abuse.

BINTULU: Narcotic police here on two consecutive days arrested four locals on suspicion of engaging in substance abuse activities.

Bintulu district police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit in a statement, said the first two male suspects were arrested around Jalan Tun Hussein Onn Wednesday (June 15).

During an inspection, police found nothing illegal on the men; however, they were detained for allegedly abusing drugs.

“The suspects aged 26 and 45, were tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Both of them will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years and two years of supervision, if convicted” he said.

Meanwhile, the other two male suspects were arrested by the men in blue around Taman Sri Dagang and Jalan Tun Hussein Onn on the next day, namely yesterday.

Batholomew pointed out that one of them was found to be in possession of 0.7g of drugs believed to be syabu.

“The suspect will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a jail term of up to five years and a fine up to RM100,000, upon conviction.

“Both suspects aged 40 and 42, were also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.  They will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
