SIBU: Four persons including three high school students were each slapped with a RM1,000 fine for being out late at night without any valid reason and a police permit at Jalan Sentosa-Salim here on Sunday (Jan 24).

The individuals, aged between 16 and 42, were found violating the movement control order (MCO) by going to their friend’s house and did not stay at home throughout the enforcement period.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, when contacted, said the group, who was travelling in a car, was stopped by a patrol team at 12.10am.

“They told the patrol team that they had just left their friend’s house after playing computer games and were heading to watch an illegal motorcycle race.

“However, such reason was not accepted as everyone is required to stay at home during this MCO period,” he said.

Stanley added that the individuals were each compounded under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 (Act 342).
